Video Games, Issue 18, March 1984
This project was started with scans of a de-stapled issue bought from a newsstand at time of release with no thought toward preservation. An Epson WF-7610 was used at 600dpi with magazine de-screening active and saved to TIF with no compression. The outer page (cover) uses a different paper stock than the rest of the magazine which, while not newsprint, is certainly thinner than standard magazines. The black construction paper was used to eliminate bleed-through because of the thinness of the paper.
Original Scans
Select source scans in TIF format are available below.
Pre-Production
A template was created to create a properly sized frame for individual pages. For the inner pages this was trimmed to account for the bind/staple area. Straightening was accomplised using the Photoshop Measure tool on an oversized crop of a single scan after 90 degree rotation. The subsequent straightened single page was then pasted into the template and moved into proper position. This image was then saved as a PSD for future work. Finally the 600dpi original was scaled to 300dpi and saved to JPG at Maximum. Select images in this format are available below.
Reader Format
The first 16 pages saved as 300dpi JPGs were compiled into CBR format available below. The default color settings of CDisplay cause a major change to the paper color.
